• Proverbs 4:23 – 27 •
“Keep your HEART with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. (24)Put away from you crooked SPEECH, and put devious talk far from you. (25)Let your EYES look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. (26)Ponder the path of your FEET; then all your ways will be sure. (27)Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your FOOT away from evil.” (ESV)
• The Bottom Line •
In this Proverb, the father encourages his son to keep wisdom by guarding various aspects of his body.
✝️ Verse 23: His heart should be vigilant.
✝️ Verse 24: His mouth should avoid falsehood.
✝️ Verse 25: His eyes should be directed forward.
✝️ Verse 26-27: Finally, he should keep the path of his feet clear and not turn toward evil.
• Conclusion •
The instructions in Proverbs 4:23-27, from a father to a son, remind me of the instructions, in Ephesians 6:14-18, when the Apostle Paul uses the uniform of a soldier, to remind us to stay strong in the Holy Spirit.
“Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,(15) and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. (16)In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; (17)and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, (18)praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,” — Ephesians 6:14-18 (ESV)
